Peavine Pete Habitat Conservation Ambassador Hello! My name is Peavine Pete and I’m the newest addition to Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation! I am a Desert Tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) and usually live in the deserts of Southern Nevada, but TMPF adopted me from the Northern Nevada Tortoise Group. Now I get to live in Northern Nevada! I’m between 10 and 15 years old, I can’t exactly remember, but I live to be about 80 in captivity, so 5 years doesn’t seem like much to forget. Sadly, my species is listed as THREATENED under the Endangered Species Act. Much of our tortoise habitat in the desert is being lost due to development, degraded from invasive species, or fragmented by roads or other impassable barriers. I enjoy long walks outside, cozy burrows and marigolds! I am passionate about the preservation of our beautiful local, desert outdoors spaces. I’m very excited to join the TMPF Team and to become an ambassador to the community for habitat conservation. Stop by Rosewood Nature Study Area and say hello! - Doggie Ambassador Project | tmparksfoundation
Volunteer with Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation and help us keep dog waste out of our parks and river. This project is made possible with the help of dedicated volunteers and community partners. Help us stock dog waste bag dispensers in the Truckee Meadows as a Doggie Ambassador! Through your service, community members will now have access to free dog waste bags at Truckee Meadows’ parks. As dg waste bags are distributed, we will work to reduce the amount of dog waste in our parks, open spaces, and the Truckee River watershed. User If you already volunteer with TMPF, log in become a Doggie Ambassador. Edit New to us? Sign up to start volunteering! Donation Looking to support in other ways? Your donation will help keep dog waste bags available in our parks! Every time it rains or snow melts, dog waste is washed into drains and storm sewers. The waste, full of unhealthy bacteria, flows with the stormwater directly into ponds, lakes, and rivers. In high enough quantities, the bacteria and parasites found in dog waste cause bodies of water to become unsafe for recreation activities like swimming and fishing. 1/4 Help us map dog waste in the Truckee Meadows as a Poop Plotter Community Scientist! Your poop plots will help define the scope of the dog waste problem in our parks and open spaces - spreading awareness, targeting resources, and keeping our public spaces safe and clean. User If you already volunteer with TMPF, log in to your account to start plotting poop. Edit If you would like to officially join our volunteer community, sign-up to help track turds. Star No ready to fully commit? Continue as a guest to help mark manure. What's Your Style? Protect the Truckee River Watershed by Picking up Dog Waste We all have our own style of doing things and this includes how we pick up after our dogs Whether you have the perfect jump shot every time you go for the trash can, pick it up with world record speed, or know the ultimate one handed life hack, when you pick up after your dog you're helping protect the Truckee River Community Partners Thank you, Healthy Tails, for your donation of 1,000 Dog Bag Leash Dispensers!
