- Parque de Somersett Oeste | tmparksfoundation
With community input, the City of Reno and the Somersett Owners Association have partnered to design and build a new park in West Somersett. Tahoe Meadows Access Ramp Donate Today Goal : The Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation in partnership with the US Forest Service (USFS), Nevada Department of Transportation, and Tahoe Meadows Access Ramp Committee is working to install a pedestrian accessibility ramp between the north and south boardwalks in the area known as Tahoe Meadows. Location : The Tahoe Meadows Access Ramp will be located at the Tahoe Meadows Trailhead connecting to the north and south boardwalks, east of Mount Rose Highway 431, south of Mt. Rose Summit in Washoe County, Nevada. Community Benefits : The existing boardwalk pedestrian system, constructed over the past 10 years by the USFS, was built with stairway connections to Hwy 431. The existing stairways do not provide full accessibility to users with limited or restricted mobility, ie, wheelchairs, walkers, etc. Currently, access to the Tahoe Meadows boardwalks and associated boardwalks are connected to the roadside parking area by 2 sets of stairs located on the north and south access entrances to the Tahoe Meadows boardwalk system. The Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation, USFS, and the Tahoe Meadows Access Ramp Committee propose the installation of the accessibility ramp at the roadside trailhead to provide enhanced equity of access to the boardwalks and improve the quality of the recreational experience. The improvements will support the use of the recreational facility for all users with any ability to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the Tahoe Meadows. Bids for Access Ramp Construction are now open Submission Guidlines Current Access to Tahoe Meadows Boardwalk: Site Map: Thank you to all the community members supporting this project.
Park-based programs, STEM activities for kids, building connections with nature. Healthy Parks Healthy People encourages a healthy lifestyle. Nature-centric. Park Sustainability. Parks District Initiative Because our members wrote letters, called their assembly members, senators, and Governor Sandoval, A.B. 379 became a law. This means that the real work to create a Parks, Recreation, Trails, Open Spaces, and Natural Resource district in Washoe County is just getting started. Washoe County, Reno, and Sparks have cut our park budgets up to 50% in the past 10 years. Recovery of those budgets has not occurred and infrastructure is failing. Assemblywoman Amber Joiner has introduced a bill (A.B. 379) that will allow us to consider alternative funding mechanisms to support our parks, trails, and open spaces. Update June 5, 2017: Success! Governor Sandoval signed A.B. 379 into law today! This means the real work to create a Parks, Recreation, Trails, Open Spaces, and Natural Resource district in Washoe County is just getting started. We give a huge thank you to everyone who wrote and called their assembly members, senators, and Governor Sandoval. We couldn't have done it without your help! Update May 30, 2017: Thanks to citizens who called their state senators in support of the bill, A.B. 379 passed a Senate floor vote 13-7. The bill moved back to the Assembly for concurrence and was finalized and enrolled. That means to become a law, it only needs Governor Sandoval's signature. Write Governor Sandoval or call his office today and tell him we need options on how we fund our parks (sample letter below). Update May 23, 2017: The final amended A.B. 379 will receive a vote on the Senate floor later this week (date to be determined). Write to your senator now telling them you support passage of this bill that would allow us to decide on how we want to fund our parks. Update May 16, 2017: An amended A.B. 379 has been submitted and is scheduled for the Senate Gov’t Affairs Committee Work Session today Wednesday, May 17th at 1:00 Room 2135. Update April 28, 2017: A.B. 379 passed the Assembly on April 25th with 34 yeahs and 8 nays and has been referred to the Senate Committee on Government Affairs and will be heard Wed, May 3rd at 1:30 PM, Room 2135. - Park Support Letters | tmparksfoundation
Since the Great Recession (2008), the parks departments in the Reno/Sparks area have sustained massive budget, personnel, and maintenance cuts. This has resulted in the deterioration of our parks and recreation facilities. The Parks Foundation believes it is imperative that we emphasize quality of life in Truckee Meadows by investing in these vital public resources. Our city and county representatives are currently deliberating their respective 2018-19 budget, and it is time to remind them how important parks are to our economy, health, and overall quality of life. Individual letters are provided below for each Parks Department managed by Reno, Sparks, and Washoe County. We ask you to read and sign your respective city's letter, and urge you to do the same for Washoe County. Please take a moment to share how you use parks and why they are important to you in the additional comments box. The letters will automatically be sent to the appropriate elected representatives. With your help, we can show how much the citizens of Truckee Meadows care about our parks. Thank you!
