Identification:

Ladybugs are small, easily recognizable beetles best known for the red shells with black dots of certain species. These insects grow between 0.3 and 0.4 inches in length. While red and black are the most famous ladybug colors, species may also be yellow and orange and may or may not have markings. Ladybugs have wings under their shells.

  • Ladybugs are often considered helpful insects in both gardens and agriculture as they prey on pests such as aphids.

  • The coloring of ladybugs is used to ward off potential predators, signalling to threats that they do not taste good.
