The Park and Caughlin Ranch
Village Green Park was created by a public/private partnership between the City of Reno and the Caughlin Ranch Homeowners Association. Caughlin Crafted Homes built the park with recreation taxes from the building permit process within Caughlin Ranch. The Caughlin Ranch HOA maintains ownership and is responsible for maintenance. Thus was a new concept in the 1980’s as the City of Reno was dealing with how to fund the cost of park maintenance. In this scenario all future maintenance costs are passed on to the HOA. Caughlin Crafted Homes built the park in house. Dale Doerr was instrumental in the planning and development of the park. Construction of the park was led by Pat Reichman landscape manager for Caughlin Crafted Homes.
Village Green Park was part of the original Caughlin Ranch owned by Chrissie Caughlin. The ranch was 3,000 acres in 1897 and stretched from Skyline Boulevard to the Truckee River. In the early 1980’s Chrissie Caughlin’s heirs sold the ranch which was then developed by Alan Means, Sam Jaksick, and Don Lonie into the present day Caughlin Ranch.
