Position Description

The Community Engagement Coordinator VISTA will be an essential member of the team for this young non-profit organization. The Community Engagement Coordinator will develop volunteer-based projects centered on activities that grow membership and the capacity of TMPF as a whole by leveraging community members to assist with “Healthy Parks, Healthy People” programs and events. This VISTA will recruit volunteers, provide volunteer trainings, and expand opportunities for volunteer engagement and other outreach events. This VISTA will serve as the primary contact for all TMPF volunteers and will be responsible for communicating and regularly engaging with volunteers to improve volunteer recruitment, training, management, and retention.


Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is a private nonprofit that was incorporated in 2012 and received its 501(c)(3) determination in 2013. The Parks Foundation protects and enhances our communities' livability through public engagement, education, and the sustainability of our parks, open spaces, and trails. Current programs focus on improving community health and wellness and developing people’s appreciation for the natural and cultural history found in local parks. A special emphasis is placed on increasing access to free programming for low income community members in order to improve education and health outcomes for people living in poverty.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Expand the “Healthy Parks, Healthy People” volunteer recruitment, training, and management program;

  • Develop, refine, and update volunteer onboarding and training protocols for the “Healthy Parks, Healthy People” programs and events;

  • Develop, expand, and improve special volunteer events and programs that promote “Healthy Parks, Healthy People” initiatives;

  • Maintain and expand partnerships with community organizations;

  • Improve and organize volunteer data tracking systems;

  • Create a public awareness campaign centered on community stewardship;

  • Create engagement opportunities for volunteers to promote TMPF programs and mission;

  • Create and maintain a volunteer appreciation and retention plan;

  • Assist in planning and coordination of annual “Healthy Parks, Healthy People” events at the Rosewood Nature Study Area.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to the Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation mission and vision;

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or volunteer experience;

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment;

  • Exceptional writing skills;

  • Experience with outreach events;

  • Strong communication skills;

  • Strong organizational skills;

  • High degree of initiative and spirit of service;

  • Preferred: experience in volunteer management and recruitment;

  • Preferred: experience with graphic design;

  • Preferred: experience with event planning;

  • Preferred: reading, writing, and speaking competency in Spanish language.

Compensation and Benefits

  • In return for their service, AmeriCorps VISTA members receive a living allowance of approximately $22,822.

  • Upon completion of service, choice of Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of approximately $6,850 or post-service stipend of $1,800.

  • A relocation settling-in allowance of no less than $750 if you are moving more than 50 miles, and travel allowance based on mileage may also apply.

  • Health benefits during service.

  • Child care assistance (if applicable).

  • Qualified student loan deferment or forbearance.

  • Non-competitive eligibility for qualified government jobs the first year after completing service.

  • Professional development through monthly training, skills learned in service, and experience in a nonprofit environment.

  • Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation offers flex time, mileage reimbursement for service-related travel, a casual dress code, and a fun office environment!
